OUR STORY

Carte Blanche is a 6-piece jazz ensemble based in New York City that performs international jazz classics from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. Featuring accordion, violin and female vocals, the group has performed around the globe and has been featured in film and television scores. With their unique international sound and glamorous vintage style, Carte Blanche transports its audiences to times gone by with original renditions of classic songs in 7 languages – English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Yiddish. The group also incorporates original compositions, offering a modern twist on the iconic styles of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. Founded in 2010 by accordionist Kate Dunphy, the band features Spanish born, Mexican/American raised vocalist Cristina Kaminis. Kaminis’ unusual and sultry vocal quality captures the essence of the era, and she enchants audiences with her impressive knack for languages and musical styles; easily flowing from Eartha Kitt to Billie Holiday to Buena Vista Social Club renditions. Kaminis developed a particular passion for the music of Edith Piaf while studying in Paris and has been especially lauded for her performances of Piaf’s music, seeming to channel the essence of the famed French vocalist. The ensemble’s versatile instrumentation has a rich and captivating sound that is powered by a tight rhythm section. With their stunning vintage accoutrements, they have developed a large group of devoted fans around the globe who love them as much for their look as for their commitment to preserving the music of a by-gone era.
